Cork City go into tomorrow’s top of the table clash with Monaghan United in fine form, knowing a win will open up a gap between themselves and Roddy Collins' team.
The sides met earlier in the season in a pulsating 2-2 draw at Turners Cross in April where City needed a late equaliser and the only unbeaten league record in the country will be under severe threat in Gortakeegan.

All-Ireland Hurling qualifier Cork v Laois Saturday in Portlaoise @ 3pm;
Given the respective records of these two sides it is little wonder that their paths have rarely crossed in championship hurling, 1915 been the last such meeting.
They did meet in the final of the Centenary Cup Final in 1984 in which Cork were easy winners and the expectation is that they will repeat that on Saturday.

It's back to league matters for Cork City tomorrow night when Athlone Town visit Turners Cross.
They will go into the game full of confidence after two great cup victories over the Bank Holiday weekend. In a potentially tricky FAI Cup encounter away to Midleton United last Friday, they emerged 2-0 winners while arguably the result of the weekend anywhere was City’s 2-1 over Premier Division St Patrick’s Athletic in the EA Sports Cup at Turners Cross on Monday night.
