Kinsale Yacht Club is gearing up to host over 100 boats and their crews for the biennial Sovereign’s Cup.
The four-day sailing and social programme will take place between Wednesday, 22 June and Saturday, 25 June.
Entries are rolling in each week, with both regular competitors and newcomers to the event from all over Ireland and the UK gearing themselves for the festival.

Corkkonians will have the chance to lift their voices and get involved in an exciting new arts project in Cork from this weekend as Voices from Shandon launches on Saturday, 18 June.
The project is being run between Cork Community Art link and Didier Gallot Lavalée, a performer, teacher, creator and member of internationally renowned street company, Royale de Luxe, for over 20 years.

Over €52,000 has been generated for GAA clubs throughout Cork thanks to an innovative scheme from the county’s main sponsor.
O2 Engage is an affinity scheme which gave Cork GAA supporters the opportunity to donate five per cent of their monthly mobile phone spend to the club of their choice during the past twelve months.

A new book by Cork Independent columnist, Kieran McCarthy, will be launched this weekend, highlighting the history of the Munster Agricultural Society from its foundation in Cork in 1806.
‘Munster Agricultural Society the Story of the Cork Show grounds’ will be launched at the Cork Summer Show, which runs from Friday, 17 June to Sunday, 19 June at Greenfields in Ballincollig.

Tall ship, HMS Bounty, is due to arrive in Cork City today (Thursday) where she will berth at Albert Quay, Port of Cork until Sunday, 19 June 2011. This famous tall ship will be open to the public on Friday, 17; Saturday, 18 and Sunday, 19 June from 11am to 6pm daily, during her visit to Cork city.

Blackpool Library will show an exhibition of works by local artist, Seán Ó Caoimh.
Northside native Seán is self-taught and specialises in works that allow the imagination free rein and reward close scrutiny.
Painting since he was a young man, Seán acknowledges Joseph Keys as an
early influence and one or two of the pieces on show reflect that in a way
complimentary to both established artist and newcomer.

The Irish Injured Jockeys Fund has announced details for the inaugural ‘Jog for Jockeys 5km’ run, which will take place at Cork Racecourse on Sunday, 21 August.
The run, starting at 12 noon, will take place at five different racecourses simultaneously also including Down Royal Racecourse, Galway Racecourse, Leopardstown Racecourse and Naas Racecourse.

A recruitment drive will be held by NGO, Haven, at the Silversprings Moran Hotel this evening Thursday, 16 June in an attempt to gather 100 volunteers for the final Haiti Build It Week in October.
Volunteers are now being sought for the project, which will try to help repair the damage of the earthquake in January 2010 by helping build houses for some of the poorest people in the western hemisphere.
