A Cork-based company has taken two gold medals at the UK Great Taste awards. Recognised as the benchmark for speciality food and drink, this is the second year in succession that Delicious has been awarded the gold standard. Delicious, an Irish artisan bakery specialising in gluten free cakes and breads, competed with 5,000 entrants and won two gold stars for its coconut macaroon and one gold star for its gluten free brown bread. Three gold stars is the highest accolade producers can aspire to in the Great Taste awards. In response to the award the company's founder, Denise O'Callaghan said, "this is our second year to enter the Great Taste Awards and we're thrilled to have won gold in both years. To have taken a double gold this year was the icing on the cake for us." The win was also warmly welcomed by the Coeliac Society of Ireland who said, "we are delighted to hear of Delicious' recent award. Taste is a huge issue for Coeliacs, faced with a gluten free diet." The company was founded by Denise O'Callaghan, who switched careers from banking to baking, as a response to her father's diagnosis as a coeliac. Delicious were also selected to participate in the Genesis Enterprise Programme, a year long course for Ireland’s top entrepreneurs. |
